A Winter Park native, Patrice Shirer embarked on her business journey in her early 20s, inspired by her grandmother, an interior designer who was remodeling homes long before HGTV popularized the trend. In 1980, Patrice launched her own renovation and remodeling business, focusing on buying and updating homes in the Winter Park - Orlando areas for resale. Her efforts garnered positive write-ups in newspapers and trade magazines, highlighting her expertise in home remodeling. By 1984, she obtained her real-estate broker license, and after several successful years in real estate sales and development, she received her contractor license. As the market evolved, her business adapted as well, transitioning from home remodeling to meet the increasing demand for new construction. Operating under the name Hobby Homes Inc., she constructed over 30 homes from the late '80s until 2025. Throughout this time, Patrice dedicated 14 years to the Board of Adjustments & Appeals for the city of Winter Park, where she served both as a member and chairperson. Her real estate expertise and construction knowledge made her particularly well-suited for these roles, enabling her to understand the intricacies of zoning variances and what appointed officials seek in variance requests. This understanding motivated her to launch RuleBreakers.
